XI Forest Restoration Workshop

SOHMA participated as an organizational collaborator in the XI Forest Restoration Workshop, together with GADE (Environmental Adequacy Group), held on August 29, 30 and 31, 2024. The event was an important platform for disseminating knowledge and innovations in the area of forest restoration, promoting debates and the exchange of experiences among specialists, professionals and students.

This edition addressed essential topics, such as new technologies and innovations for large-scale forest restoration, with emphasis on the carbon market and the socioeconomic aspects and public policies involving this area. The discussions were directed to a specialized audience, reinforcing the importance of integrating restoration practices with current economic and social demands.

On the last day of the event, August 31, a mini-course offered by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Caminhos da Semente was held. The mini-course combined theoretical lectures with a practical excursion, allowing participants to visit reforestation areas using the Muvuca technique, an efficient and economical approach to restoring degraded ecosystems. In addition, the event featured lectures given by the supervising professor Maurício Cherubin and by SOHMA doctoral student Antônio Yan Viana Lima. The SOHMA undergraduate program was also represented by Lorena Barbosa, who presented her work in poster and Flash Talk format.
