SOHMA

Soil Health & Management Research Group

Who are we?

SOHMA (Soil Health & Management Research Group) is a research group based at the Department of Soil Science at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture – University of São Paulo (ESALQ-USP).

How do we work?

We develop research projects aimed at monitoring the impacts of agricultural systems and management practices on soil quality/health, through integrated assessments of chemical, physical and biological soil processes, and their interactions with plant growth.

In addition, we work on projects that aim at developing and applying methodologies to quantify the impacts of agricultural production systems on the provision of ecosystem services associated with soil and sustainability.

Our purpose and goals:

Unite undergraduate and graduate students, professors, and researchers interested in developing research activities related to the impacts of land use and management practices on soil health.

Goals:

  • Generate science that contributes to soil preservation and the sustainable development in Brazilian agriculture.

  • Promote scientific and technical advances that contribute to tackling major global crises, such as food insecurity, desertification, biodiversity loss, and climate change.
