Re-gen-nect event in Chicago, Illinois

From May 12th to 14th, 2025, the city of Chicago, in the United States, hosted the Regennect event, which brought together experts from around the world to discuss the future of regenerative agriculture. Among the highlights of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Maurício Cherubin, research director of the Center for Carbon in Tropical Agriculture (CCARBON/USP), participated in the panel “Exploring Regenerative Agriculture: Impacts, Challenges and Opportunities Around the World”.

Alongside internationally renowned names such as Dr. Chuck Rice (Kansas State University), Dr. Sudhanshu Singh (International Rice Research Institute – IRRI) and John Crawford (University of Glasgow), Professor Cherubin discussed how agriculture can be an ally in tackling climate change.

The panel highlighted the importance of regenerative practices adapted to different regional realities. These practices contribute not only to mitigating climate impacts, but also to strengthening soil health, increasing biodiversity, conserving water resources and improving the quality of life of rural producers.

According to Professor Cherubin, Brazil has a strategic role in this global transformation, especially due to its agricultural relevance and the diversity of biomes that favor the adoption of sustainable systems. Regenerative agriculture thus emerges as a promising path for building a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable food system.
