Leonardo Galera

PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Geosciences from the Universität Hamburg (UHH)/Institut für Bodenkunde (IfB) in Germany, with focus on carbon and nutrient dynamics in the Arctic and climate change.

Leonardo is an Agricultural Engineer (ESALQ/USP) and has a Master's degree in Chemistry in Agriculture and the Environment (CENA/USP). During his undergraduate studies, he completed a one-year internship at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. His doctoral research included an expedition to Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland, where he collected soil and permafrost samples. His work has focused on biogeochemical processes, mainly carbon, and on the factors that influence carbon sequestration in soil and the production and emission of greenhouse gases. He has experience with the use of stable isotopes and incubation experiments.

He was an expert reviewer of the Synthesis Report of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and is currently working on assessing the carbon balance and soil health in the sustainable intensification of agricultural systems.
