Prof. Cherubin wins award for new leaders
On June 6, Professor Mauricio Cherubin, a professor at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ/USP), vice-coordinator and director of Research at CCARBON/USP, received the Excellence Award for New Research Leaders at USP – 2025.
Promoted by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the University of São Paulo, the award recognizes young scientific leaders who stand out for their commitment to academic excellence and for their relevant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the major areas represented at USP.
In this edition, the award received 90 eligible applications, evaluated by a committee composed of USP professors and 27 external researchers. The high level of the candidates was highlighted by the evaluators, demonstrating the robustness and diversity of the university's scientific production.
Professor Cherubin's research focuses on quantifying the impacts of land use and management practices on soil health, carbon dynamics, and the provision of ecosystem services in both agricultural and natural ecosystems. He also investigates the potential of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to mitigate and adapt production systems to global climate change.
SOHMA congratulates Prof. Cherubin on this important distinction, which reinforces his leading role in agro-environmental and climate research.
