CCarbon opens headquarters at ESALQ

On June 6, 2025, the University of São Paulo (USP) took another strategic step in tackling climate change by inaugurating the administrative center of the Center for Carbon Research in Tropical Agriculture (CCARBON/USP), based at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ/USP), in Piracicaba (SP).

The ceremony brought together academic authorities, representatives of the productive sector, public policy makers and members of civil society, reflecting the plural and inclusive nature of CCARBON's mission. The center was created with the aim of promoting innovative solutions for mitigating climate change through tropical agriculture, promoting synergies between science, the market and sustainable policies.

“We are consolidating a space of scientific excellence and strategic articulation, which positions USP as a global protagonist in the transition to a low-carbon economy,” highlighted USP’s rector, Prof. Dr. Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Jr., present at the event.

CCARBON acts as a bridge between knowledge production and its practical application in the field, focusing on research that reconciles agricultural productivity, environmental conservation and climate justice. The inauguration of the administrative center represents a milestone in the institutional structuring of the center and strengthens its role as a national and international reference in sustainable practices aimed at the agricultural sector.
