Brazilian Cerrado sampling expedition
Members of SOHMA recently completed the field stage of a scientific expedition focused on soil sampling in the Brazilian Cerrado. The activity is part of the PhD project of Carlos Alcides Villalba Algarin, under the supervision of Professor Maurício Roberto Cherubin, in partnership with Bayer’s PRO Carbono Project.
During the expedition, the researchers traveled through different regions of the biome, covering areas with distinct management systems. Environments under conventional agriculture, regenerative agriculture practices, and native vegetation areas were evaluated.
The initiative aims to understand how different forms of soil use and management influence its characteristics and processes, especially throughout transition stages between production systems. The collected data are expected to contribute to the advancement of more sustainable agricultural strategies, focusing on soil conservation and carbon sequestration.
The conclusion of the field stage marks progress in the development of the research, which now moves forward to the phases of laboratory analysis and interpretation of the results.
