Attendance at GEO-7
SOHMA postdoctoral fellow Danielle Mendes Thame Denny participated in the Global Environment Outlook 7 (GEO-7) event, a highly relevant global initiative coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It aims to assess the current state of the global environment, future trends and implications for human well-being, with a focus on the transformation needed to achieve an environmentally sustainable world by 2050.
During the inaugural GEO-7 meetings, crucial issues were discussed, such as the triple planetary crisis – involving climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution – and the need to transform interdependent systems such as energy, food and waste, as well as the economic and financial systems that support them. These transformations are seen as fundamental to creating a world with a stable climate, rich in biodiversity and with near-zero waste production.
Participation in GEO-7 highlights the importance of contributing to global discussions on environmental sustainability and the urgent need for policies that address the root causes of environmental degradation.
